The 2014 final was dominated by pitching. After the Machine and Awkward exchanged 1-0 shutouts, Awkward broke out for 3 runs in the top of the 1st in the deciding game. Machine answered right back to tie, and then neither team scored again for 10 innings. At one point, according to the commissioner’s recollections, Machine had the winning run thrown out on an attempted sacrifice fly, with a terrific tag from Awkward’s lady catcher. In the end, Awkward had their second championship, and the Machine cemented their status as the unluckiest team of the 2010s.
